RPM Hire

Background

RPM Hire started in 2011 by hiring out three VMS boards to a handful of customers. In the years since, it’s become a rapidly-growing enterprise spanning six locations, 750+ VMS boards, and a wide variety of equipment focused on traffic safety. Their commitment to quality service, innovation, and operational excellence earned them both the People & Culture and Hire Company of the Year honours at HIRE25.

Problem

Rapid expansion can be challenging to manage. While some RPM Hire teams were experts in their Syrinx software, others were newer and hadn’t gone through the training. With customers increasingly demanding greater transparency in terms of equipment condition and hire processes, better documentation was needed. And RPM needed to increase productivity by better measuring current processes and building more efficient systems.

Solution

RPM Hire turned to Point of Rental’s software to address these operational challenges. They initiated a comprehensive training program to level-up the knowledge base across all branches. This involved hybrid and face-to-face training sessions across their locations.

From there, they set about answering their most important question:

“What information do we want to see, as a business?”

In working with Point of Rental’s support team to tackle their operational challenges, RPM Hire were able to push the boundaries, using what was available and figuring out how to create custom reports to meet their specific needs.

In particular, Point of Rental offered custom reporting solutions to assist RPM Hire in optimising their driver productivity and workforce management. The software enabled RPM to develop detailed driver productivity reports, helping the team to track job progress and efficiency through timestamps within the app.

To tackle customer demands for transparency, Point of Rental worked with RPM to develop systems that allowed the sharing of pre-hire photos and comprehensive reports regarding equipment conditions. This feature significantly improved communication with clients, ensuring that any disputes about equipment condition could be addressed swiftly and transparently.

Results

Working with the team at Point of Rental has revolutionised RPM Hire’s operations. The firm now enjoys heightened efficiency and transparency across all areas of their business. With training and software solutions in place, RPM staff have enhanced capabilities in stock management and are better equipped to meet customer expectations.

“As a hire software, I’ve been wowed by the depth of the capability,” said Chi Shankar, RPM Hire’s Chief Operating Officer. “I think the really powerful aspect is the reporting and the ability to pull up data in different ways. With hire, especially the kind of equipment we have, there’s a lot of units.”

RPM Hire’s constant effort to analyse and improve their business, work with their customers, and find tools that best accommodate their needs played a pivotal role in the company being named Hire Company of the Year and earning and award for Excellence in People and Culture at HIRE25.

Chi Shankar considers their relationship with Point of Rental a big part of their journey to the top:

“Point of Rental’s the first business I’ve worked with – and I’ve worked with a number of dev tech businesses – that goes beyond just rolling out a great product. They’re thinking, ‘How do you unlock the use of it? How do you customise it with your business, and how does it grow and change with you?’ It makes it a really sustainable part of our business.”

As RPM Hire continues its journey, their implementation of Point of Rental’s software exemplifies how strategic partnerships and the right technology can propel a company to the top of its industry.
