Background: Okie Rents
Okie Rents rents construction and heavy equipment from stores along the I-35 corridor in Oklahoma, including locations in Ada, Ardmore, Davis, Duncan, and Norman. The company describes itself as “proudly Okie, proudly local,” and its fleet runs from large Komatsu excavators and padfoot rollers down to sanders and laser levels.
“We’ve got big Komatsu excavators. We’ve got big padfoot rollers, all the way down to sanders and laser levels. We cover a wide variety of equipment.”
Kaleb Collins, Ada Branch Manager, Okie Rents
“We run up to 85-foot boom lifts, 12,000-pound telehandlers. We’re pretty big in the dirt business. One of our better renting items is skid steers and excavators. We cover I-35, run six stores, and average about eight employees at each store. We typically run a lot of long-term contracts. We’ve got quite a bit of equipment that stays out, and we roll the contracts on. As far as a store for a month, it’s pretty easy for us to turn a million.”

The Challenge: Scaling Into a Multi-Store Business
Okie Rents became a multi-store operation within the past five years, a jump that changes what a rental business needs from its software. A single store can run on instinct and a shared spreadsheet. Six stores along a highway corridor, each with its own inventory, customers, and long-term contracts, cannot.
The company’s owners had run a rental business before and already knew the software they wanted behind the growth.
“In the past five years, we became multi-store. The owners of our company had done a rental business before and were familiar with Point of Rental, so we bought Point of Rental and got on board with it. Running a multi-store setup like we are, you’ve got to have somebody like Point of Rental.”

The Solution: One System for Quotes, Inventory, and Revenue
Point of Rental gives every Okie Rents branch the same quoting, reservation, and inventory tools, and it keeps them connected across all six stores.
Quoting a customer and turning that quote into a reservation happen in the same system and the same tab.
“Doing quotes with Point of Rental is easy. It’s the same setup as a reservation or opening a contract; it’s all the same layout, just a different button. You put a quote on there; you can save it. Somebody calls back later and says, ‘Hey, you gave me a price for this.’ I can go right back to where their profile is, find that quote, turn it right into a reservation, and send it out in the same tab.”

When a customer with jobs at multiple locations rents from more than one Okie Rents branch, the system attributes that revenue to the store that earned it, automatically.
“If we’re renting to one of our big contractors and he’s got job locations going all over, whenever we rent to that customer, each store takes care of that business as if he were their customer. Instead of the revenue going to the company as a whole, if a particular customer is at this store today and we’re turning revenue off him here, that revenue comes to this store automatically through the system.”

The Results: Full Visibility, Better Utilization, and Faster Collections
With Point of Rental, Okie Rents can see its entire fleet across every store, not just the one in front of it.
- Full visibility into inventory across all six stores
- Revenue automatically attributed to the store that earned it, even across branches
- Reporting that drives real decisions on equipment utilization, retirement, and resale
- Faster collections and clearer cash flow visibility
“What I like most about Point of Rental is being able to see across all of our stores what our inventory looks like.”
Kaleb Collins, Ada Branch Manager, Okie Rents
That visibility changes how a branch answers a customer on the spot. Instead of turning away a job because the local yard is empty, staff can see what’s available at another store and send it over.
“A customer says, ‘I’m needing a skid steer, and I’ve got a job. I need it for a week up here,’ and you say, ‘I don’t have one.’ Here, we don’t say that. We say, ‘I’ve got one sitting at another location.’ And you’re looking at that live. On Point of Rental, you can see all your locations, so I know I’ve got two of them at this store and one at that store. It helps you maintain your customers, and you make more money. People are happier, and you don’t lose business to a competitor.”
Mike Summers, Support and Operations, Okie Rents
Reporting drives the bigger calls too, like whether a piece of equipment has earned its keep or needs to be sold.
“Point of Rental, being a rental system, also gets into a lot of reporting. I’m able to pull reports at the click of a button. Big decisions are made on utilization of equipment. Back in years past, if you saw equipment sitting in the yard, you’d say, ‘It looks like that thing’s been out here too long,’ or, ‘Do I need another one of these, or am I good? Do I need to sell one? How much money has this thing made over its lifetime?’ With a true rental system like Point of Rental, we’re able to go right in and check that. I can step over to that computer and tell you in a matter of seconds.”
Mike Summers, Support and Operations, Okie Rents
And renting equipment only pays off if the invoice gets collected.
“You can rent it all day long, but if you don’t collect on it and put that money in the bank, you’ve got nothing. I can pop into a location, and one of the first things I want to do is jump in and say, ‘How come Joe hasn’t paid? Where are we at on collections with this fella?’ That’s a big thing in the rental industry. Getting your money, and getting it as quickly as possible, is a big deal. It helps me on the administrative side to increase cash flow.”
Mike Summers, Support and Operations, Okie Rents
For a fleet worth tens of millions of dollars, that system isn’t optional anymore.
“If you run multi-store, it’s even more important. Unless you’ve gotten into that and seen what it’s like to interact between stores and pull out those separate reports, you’re missing out on it. Point of Rental is great, and I highly recommend them.”

About Point of Rental
Point of Rental started as a rental store in Grand Prairie, Texas, in 1982. When the software available at the time couldn’t handle the rental business, the founders, a group of former NASA software engineers, wrote their own in 1983. More than 40 years later, Point of Rental has built the Rental Performance System that serves more than 6,000 rental businesses in more than 80 countries, from offices in Fort Worth, Texas; Reading, England; and Melbourne, Australia, drawing on nearly 1,000 years of combined hands-on rental experience across its team.
