Background

Horizon Platforms is a Yorkshire-based powered access platform hire, sales and training company. Established in 2008, Horizon delivers its new fleet of Scissor Lifts, Boom Platforms and Personnel Lifts throughout the North of England, in addition to servicing clients nationally through a network of proven suppliers. Horizon runs its own specialist transportation, allowing it to commit to dedicated delivery and collection times quoted, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Problem

Every member of Horizon takes pride in providing impeccable customer service and ensuring customers get what they want, when they want it, every time. Setting up the business from scratch meant that choosing the right software was crucial, and for Horizon this did not mean sticking with the familiar. Ben Hirst explains: “Based on previous experience we were not willing to stay with our existing supplier. The software was unreliable, crashed regularly and support was very, very poor.”

Solution

The decision was taken to use Point of Rental’s Syrinx package, and the company has never looked back. “I was very impressed with the simplicity of the programme compared to previous systems I’ve worked with”, adds Ben. “In my experience a number of other software packages seem to have been designed by IT programmers who have little or no experience of the trade, but Syrinx has been designed by a partnership of plant hire professionals and IT specialists – and that expertise shows.”

Result

From implementation, which took just a couple of days, through to staff training, the whole process of the move to Syrinx has been smooth and problem-free. Experienced staff members have commented on the simplicity and intuitive nature of the system compared to what they have worked with before. Likewise, staff with no experience find it just as easy to use. Added to that is a level of flexibility Ben has not seen with competitor software; “The interaction of Syrinx with Microsoft Outlook and the ability to email documents is fantastic. It saves so much time.”

From on-call helpline support through to the constantly evolving choice of features, it is clear to Ben that Syrinx has played a major part in the success of Horizon Platforms. “Without Point of Rental’s support and innovative approach, we would lack the insight required to continually improve our business.
