2020 RER 100 Features Several Point of Rental Users

Despite the coronavirus pandemic causing closures and uncertainty throughout the year, the 2020 RER 100 earned $25.6 billion in rental revenue in 2020 – overall an 8.8 percent decrease from last year’s record revenue, but still the second-highest total ever.

Below are the rankings of companies using Point of Rental software products to manage their business. In parentheses, you’ll find their 2020 rental volume; asterisks indicate that the numbers are based on RER estimates.

44. Art’s Rental Equipment ($72.0M*) One of the leading construction equipment rental companies in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

56. Star Rentals ($52.9M) Relatively small rental volume drop for Star. Seattle and Portland remain challenges as many of the larger projects are high-rise office buildings that are only operating at 50-60% capacity because of safety protocols and are using less equipment. Star’s Seattle Express branch was successful despite not being at full strength due to Covid restrictions. Both cities at only 25-30% of normal workforce.

60. Location D’Outils Simplex ($50.0M*) Montreal-based rental company primarily renting aerial equipment. In the Veronneau family for generations.

69. PDQ Rentals ($41.8M) Third-generation rental person Todd Turner promoted from general manager to president after 12 years of helping PDQ evolve from DIY, party, and light contractor equipment to full-service contractor rentals with three locations over a large Southern California area.

81. Durante Rentals ($24.1M) Heavy investment in IT and sales departments with newly created outside sales team, adding Salesforce and an eCommerce platform being released in 2021. Pursuing aggressive growth and acquisition strategy, focusing on larger rental facilities and bigger customers. Opened a new full-service rental facility in Carmel, N.Y., its largest branch to date.

88. Birch Equipment Rentals & Sales ($19.8M) Forecasting stronger revenues for 2021 in all its markets, using cost-saving fleet management systems, touchless rental processes, curbside services, integrated telematics. Received fourth consecutive Washington State “Best Place to Work” with internships, apprentice programs, and advocacy to connect Birch and other businesses with educators and students.

91. Aaction Rents ($18.1M) Fairly flat year for Aaction. Top brands are John Deere, Cat, JLG, Barreto, Hilti, Multiquip. Future leadership will be 100 percent completed by the end of the year.

98. A Tool Shed ($13.9M) Strong in dump trucks, excavators, trailers, chippers, forklifts, aerials, and landscape equipment, still going strong after 75 years as a family business. Now has two family members of a the fourth generation working in the business.

100. A to Z Equipment Rentals & Sales ($11.7M) Celebrated 60th anniversary in 2020 and survived Covid by increasing equipment revenue and total revenue 3%. Overall rental down due to a large decrease in party rentals, but overall happy with a great year. Skyjack, New Holland, Allmand, Wacker, Edco, Yanmar, Honda, Stihl, Echo are top lines and many more from A to Z.
