Canadian Outdoor Co-Op MEC Joins Point of Rental

MEC, Canada’s largest consumer co-op, has chosen to implement Point of Rental’s Rental Essentials software. The organization plans to expand use to their 23 stores in the near future, creating a consistent employee and customer brand experience.

“We’re excited to work with a forward-thinking organization like MEC to help them bring next-generation convenience and processes to their rental counters and members,” VP of Cloud Products Evan Fort said.

“Point of Rental allowed us to move from a heavily manual process based around spreadsheets and phone calls to an online system that lets our customers make bookings themselves through an easy-to-use interface,” said MEC Operations Activity Coordinator Cam Miller. “As sharing economies become a bigger part of the retail space, the new software gives us a scalable solution that lets us grow our program without increasing labour costs and staff frustration with an old system.”

MEC was founded in 1971 when a group of Canadian mountaineers decided to pursue an unconventional retail model when creating a store for mountaineers and adventurers. Since then, they’ve expanded nationwide and expanded to more than 5 million members. As a community-focused organization, MEC is committed to providing access to high-quality apparel and equipment, and Rental Essentials will help them do that efficiently.
