Track the fleet, record the transaction, run the report. Point of Rental helped write that playbook. But starting today, Sept. 1, the company is moving past it. The new tagline says it plainly: <strong>Performance is the point.<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"article-paragraph\">&#8220;Rental management shows what has happened,&#8221; said Wayne Harris, CEO of Point of Rental. &#8220;It&#8217;s looking at reports that show what we did in the past. Performance is about real-time visibility, proactive issue flagging, and making decisions based on market insights and future predictions, not just history.&#8221;<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"why\">Why Point of Rental Is Redefining Itself<\/h2>\n<div class=\"article-paragraph\">A rebrand is also a chance to reintroduce a company to a market that may not have kept up with how much it has changed. Wayne has noticed the gap firsthand in conversations with prospects.<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-paragraph\">&#8220;When we talk to a big heavy equipment company, they&#8217;ll say, &#8216;Oh, I thought Point of Rental was just for events,'&#8221; he said. &#8220;And then we&#8217;ll go talk to an event prospect, and they&#8217;re like, &#8216;Oh, I thought Point of Rental was just for equipment.'&#8221;<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-paragraph\">That disconnect is part of what&#8217;s driving the change. &#8220;The Point of Rental that they knew a decade ago, or maybe even five years ago, is not who we are today,&#8221; Wayne said. &#8220;We have grown, we have matured, we have brought so many more products and so much more value to our customers. This is about aligning the Point of Rental brand to our customers&#8217; needs and who we are today as a company.&#8221;<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"not-enough\">Management Isn&#8217;t Enough Anymore<\/h2>\n<div class=\"article-paragraph\">Wayne traces the shift back to his own start in the business, at his parents&#8217; rental store, when inventory lived on index cards and rates were written by hand on the back.<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-paragraph\">&#8220;You can&#8217;t run a rental store like that anymore,&#8221; he said. Customers now expect real-time availability, real-time rates, and, as Wayne put it, deliveries &#8220;in an hour&#8221; from the time a customer decides they need something.<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-paragraph\">Rental has shifted away from the days when even inexpensive items like shovels might be rented, toward more expensive, more complex assets that cost more to buy and maintain. &#8220;There&#8217;s just no room for error,&#8221; Wayne said.<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-paragraph\">Features that were once a competitive edge, Wayne said, are now simply expected. What used to separate one rental software platform from another has become table stakes across the industry. Later in his talk, he added, &#8220;Margins are getting smaller, turnarounds are quicker, and every decision carries greater financial impact than ever before.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-paragraph\">&#8220;Rental businesses aren&#8217;t asking how they ran the business anymore,&#8221; he said. &#8220;They&#8217;re asking how they perform better every day.&#8221;<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"rps\">Introducing the Rental Performance System<\/h2>\n<div class=\"article-paragraph\">The category Point of Rental is putting a name to is the Rental Performance System, or RPS, and the distinction from a traditional rental management system, or RMS, is deliberate.<\/div>\n<div style=\"background: #ACD968; color: #142F1A; border-radius: 10px; padding: 22px 26px; margin: 0 0 1.75em; font-weight: 700; font-size: 1.15em;\">An RMS records what happened. An RPS does something about it.<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-paragraph\">&#8220;Rental management shows what has happened. That&#8217;s looking at reports that show what we did in the past,&#8221; Wayne said. &#8220;Management is slower to innovate, because you have to take all of those reports and then try to figure out what that means and apply it going forward.
